Rafael Fiziev lost his first fight against Mateusz Gamrot in September of last year after suffering a knee injury in the 2nd round, and now after fully recovering from that he’s eager to run the match-up again.
“Honestly, after my last loss against Gamrot after I got surgery, I talked to my manager and I told him I wanted a rematch because I still want to feel that wrestling pressure and grappling pressure, I want to fight with an elite grappler like him,” Fiziev told Submission Radio. “If this fight happens against Gamrot, that would be perfect.”
Gamrot has since responded and it sounds like he’s more than willing to face him again.
“I like your attitude. No easy fights, huh? Five rounds with you in the cage sounds great,” Gamrot wrote in X.
The No.8 ranked Gamrot has fought twice since they last met in the Octagon, earning a unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos before going on to lose a split-decision to Dan Hooker back in August.
As for Fiziev, he’s now ranked No.11 after his year out, and he’d also lost to Justin Gaethje by majority decision prior to his injury, but he was on a six-fight winning streak before that.
