Raulian Paiva Pulled From UFC Fight Night 188 After Weight-Cut Gone Bad

Raulian Paiva was pulled from his UFC Fight Night 188 main card fight with David Dvorak before he’d even stepped onto the scales yesterday after suffering a bad weight cut.

“I was cutting weight yesterday and I was fine, I was really fine, and I remember leaving the sauna to do some towels and then I had a strong headache and pain in the chest, and then I don’t remember anything anymore,” Paiva told MMA Fighting. “I only remember waking up at the hospital.

“My mind wanted [to cut the weight] but my body didn’t. The doctor said I had low blood pressure and was dehydrated, that’s why I was passing out and wouldn’t wake back up. But thank God I was cleared from the hospital at midnight and am feeling well now.”

Despite Paiva’s late removal from the card, Dvorak will still get an opportunity to fight as the UFC was able to draft in an extremely short notice opponent in Juancamilo Ronderos, a newcomer with a 4-0 record.

However, as a result of the change the new match-up has been relegated to the prelims of the card, while a fight between Ricard Ramos and Bill Algeo has been promoted to main card status.
