It has emerged that a middleweight fight between Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and Derek Brunson is in the works for sometime in early 2018.
“UFC offered me Derek Brunson to fight on February 3rd at UFC FN 125, Belem do Para, Brazil,” ‘Jacare’ revealed on Twitter. “I already agreed to fight on Belem do Para, Brazil, now is up to Derek Brunson, I hope he doesn’t come up with escuses [sic] about the location and date of event.”
Brunson has since responded indicating that he is down to fight, but suggested that the fight might take place a little sooner than his Brazilian rival is anticipating.
“That’s weird,” Brunson replied on Twitter. “I accepted for Jan 27 in Charlotte, NC. I’ll be in touch after this weekend’s fight! See you in NC.”
‘jacare’ is coming off a tough loss against Robert Whittaker back in April, losing out on the chance to win the interim middleweight title when he was TKO’d with a big head kick and follow-up punches in the third round .
As for Brunson, he’s coming off his biggest win to date against Lyoto Machida last month, knocking him out mid-way through the first round to claim the No.7 spot on the divisional rankings – two spots below ‘Jacare’.
