Shane Burgos got the better of a hard-fought stand-up battle with Cub Swanson tonight at UFC Fight Night 151.
Round One:
Side kick to the leg from Swanson. Front kick comes up short for Burgos. Leg kick for Swanson and then two powerful hooks for him.
Leg kicks exchanged. Right hook for Burgos on the counter. Leg kicks from both again. Another leg kick for Swanson. Again a leg kick apiece and another for Burgos.
Both men looking sharp to start. Body kick for Swanson. Nice right hand from Burgos. Right and then a jab for Burgos as he starts to find his range. Now a body shot. Uppercut lands.
Push kick for Swanson. Punch from Burgos. Body punch for Swanson and then a solid kick. Inside leg kick from Burgos. Body head hook combo from Burgos.
Leg kick and then a body kick up high from Swanson. Right hands for Swanson now. He tries for a spinning kick to the body that doesn’t quite land.
leg kick for Swanson and once in return from Burgos. Side kick to the leg from Swanson. left hand for Swanson and Burgos threatens with the counter.
Low leg kick for Burgos, kick in return from Swanson and another from Burgos afterwards. Body shot for Burgos as the round comes to a close.
Round Two:
Leg kicks from Swanson and then one of the body. leg kicks exchanged. jab for Swanson. Crunching right hand from Swanson.
Swanson trying a jumping switch kick but then a counter punch from Burgos. Jab for Burgos. Nice punch for Burgos. He lands the jab. Body kick for Swanson. Now a hard body punch and an uppercut. Inside leg kick now.
Swanson with punches as he presses forward. Sneaky uppercut gets through for Burgos. Body work for Swanson. Another hard right hand for Swanson.
Leg kick for Burgos. jab for Swanson but a bigger one lands on the counter from Burgos. Jab for Burgos again. Leg kick for Swanson. Jab from BUrgos.
Burgos lands with the light jab again. Swanson with a punch. Now one to the body. Inside leg kick. Good jab for Swanson. He lands it again. Kick upstairs bounces off the arm.
Body punch and a right hand for Swanson. Punch for Swanson and a solid kick in return from BUrgos. Short punches from Burgos as he moves forward and then tees off with a short flurry against the cage.
Jab for Burgos and a low kick behind it. Head kick attempt is blocked by Swanson. Both men still throwing as the round ends.
Round Three:
Glancing left hook for Swanson. He’s loading up again , but not quite finding the mark. He lands a bit punch shortly afterwards though.
Double right hand for Swanson. Leg kick for Burgos and a short flurry of punches for Swanson. Suddenly Swanson swoops down, takes the back of Burgos and tries to get him down. He’s unsuccessful but remains clinched to his back against the cage. Swanson landing knees to the thigh from that position.
Swanson continues to land to the thigh here with his knee strikes. Backwards elbow from Burgos lands. Burgo struggling to break free of the clinch here.
They break free with two minutes remaining. Body punch and a right hook from Swanson. Now a front kick to the body. Elbow lands for Burgos. Now a short leg kick.
left hook for Swanson. Head kick attempt from Burgos just misses. Burgos waving Swanson on in the final minute. Burgos landing clean as Swanson tries to get into range.
Good combo for Burgos. Swanson tries for a takedown, but Burgos defends that. Burgos with punches and a flying knee as he really ends the round with an exclamation mark here.
Decision:
A hard fought encounter here then and it leads to a split decision verdict, with Shane Burgos emerging victorious (27-30, 30-27, 29-28).
