It’s been a decade since Stephen Thompson last fought on the prelims and so he’s admitted to being disappointed that his UFC 307 fight with Joaquin Buckley in Salt Lake City, Utah on October 5th won’t be on the main card.

“I’m so used to being on the main card, but hey, wherever the UFC puts us, we’re going to go out there and put on a show no matter what,” Thompson told Bodog Canada. “We’re going to show everybody that we deserved to be there. We should have been on the main card. But yeah, a little weird at this point knowing what kind of a fight this is going to be. You would figure that they’d want to have all eyes on it.

“Now, I’m not sure if it was because, you know, the last time I was supposed to fight in Salt Lake City my opponent didn’t make weight. But Joaquin Buckley is notorious for making weight, so I know he’s going to be a professional and we’re going to go out there and have fun but yeah, it was a little disappointing like, what’s going on now?”

The 41-year-old Thompson, who is currently ranked No.9 in the welterweight division, went on to state his belief that there other fights on the main card that he would have expected to be on the prelims instead of his, given that he’s expecting there to be fireworks in his striking battle with the No.11 placed Buckley.

“It’s wild. I don’t know why they put that on the card. I mean, there’s some fights on the main card that I think should be on the prelims but, you know, it is what it is.”

For the record, UFC 307 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr, while a women’s bantamweight title fight between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena takes the co-main event spot.

Meanwhile, the main card is currently rounded out by Jose Aldo vs. Mario Bautista, Ketlen Vieira vs. Kayla Harrison and Roman Dolidze vs. Kevin Holland, with the latter of those bouts appearing to now be the PPV opener after another fight between Aljamain Sterling and Movsar Evloev was pulled from the line-up.
