Thomas Almeida And Mike Rodriguez Among Five Fighters No Longer With UFC

Five more fighters, including notable campaigners like Thomas Almeida and Mike Rodriguez have now been taken off the UFC roster in recent days.

Thomas Almeida made an immediate impact when he joined the UFC in 2014, racking up five wins in his first six fights, with all but one of those coming by way of strikes, although he did also suffer a KO loss to Cody Garbrandt.

That run made Almeida a notable contender at bantamweight, but the 30-year-old has since been unable to keep that form going, slumping to a four-fight losing streak, including a KO loss to Sean O’Malley last time out that sealed his fate.

Mike ‘Slow’ Rodriguez joined the UFC from the Contender Series back in 2018, but has struggled to make an impact in the light-heavyweight ranks, mustering only two wins from eight UFC appearances.

Emily Whitmire was a new recruit from TUF season 26 in 2017, but her weak submission defense has haunted her during her 2-4 UFC run, including her last three fights in a row seeing her succumb to a submission finish.

Antonio Arroyo looked good on the Contender Series with two wins in a row, but he failed to make the grade once he officially joined the UFC, losing all three of his fights.

Finally, Sarah Alpar is yet another Contender Series prospect who wasn’t able to make an impact in the Octagon, going 0-2 overall before being released.
