Jake Paul earned a split decision victory over Tyron Woodley in a boxing match last night in Cleveland, and afterwards both men gave their thoughts on the fight and talked about the possibility of a rematch.
In the ring immediately after the fight, Paul complimented Woodley, but also said he’d won despite not fighting at his best.
“It was a tougher fight than I expected,” Paul admitted. “My legs felt weird, since the locker room. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but he’s a tough opponent. … He put up a good fight. He’s a good boxer.”
However, Paul, who was rocked and almost fell through the ropes after a big overhand right from Woodley in the fourth round, suggested that the ex-UFC star hadn’t done much other than that in the fight.
“He hit me with one real shot in the whole fight.”
Paul also suggested that he might “need to take time to chill out for a second, figure out who I am,” but Woodley appears to have other ideas and while face-to-face with his opponent in the ring for his interview, he called for an immediate rematch.
“Jake’s a great opponent … I knew he could take a punch,” Woodley stated. “But the fact that one judge gave me two rounds is laughable.
“F*** the Fury fight (referring to Paul’s next expected opponent Tommy Fury). We need to run that back.
“I want a rematch.
Paul didn’t appear to be overly enthusiastic about the idea at first, while his brother Logan, who was also in the ring told Woodley that he was now “old news.”
However, things heated up when Paul said that if Woodley made good on their pre-fight bet to get ‘I Love Jake Paul’ tattooed on his thigh then they could rematch.
Woodley seemed up for it, stating “Make the bet!”, but his manager also wanted a contract in writing first, while Paul later suggested that the time was ticking on a deal happening.
“He needs to get a tattoo quickly or we will find another opponent,” Paul said. “Put it on his Instagram. A permanent tattoo. Then we can talk about it.”
