Tyron Woodley Pushes Back Against Retirement Talk

Tyron Woodley has been hearing a lot of talk that he should retire after his latest lackluster loss against Colby Covington at UFC Fight Night 178 on Saturday night, but the former welterweight champion has brushed it aside and vowed to keep going.

“I’m not retiring – I’m not giving it up,” Woodley said on Instagram Live. “I’m not switching all my coaches up. I’m not changing the continent I live on. I’m not doing all that.

“Some sh*t didn’t happen and guess what? I don’t know why it didn’t happen. I did everything to make it happen. Now we just take a deep breath and see what’s next.”

Taking a deep breath won’t be easy for the time being though as x-ray’s at the weekend confirmed Woodley did suffer a broken rib during the fight, which ultimately led to his fifth round TKO loss.

That being said, the reality is that Woodley never looked like troubling Covington during the fight, and worse still, T-Wood has now failed to win a single round in his last three fights.

A seeming inability to pull the trigger at this late stage in his career appears to be at the route of the heavy-handed 38-year-old’s problems, with that same gun-shy mentality arguably even having been present to an extent during his title reign.

So, he desperately needs to rediscover the old form that saw him KO Robbie Lawler to win the title back in 2016 and it’ll be interesting to see if the UFC continues to match him up with other upper echelon welterweight fighters next or not.
