Two big fights have been added to the UFC 214 event in Anaheim, California on July 29th, with Renan Barao set to fight Aljamain Sterling, while ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung goes up against Ricardo Lamas.
Former bantamweight champion Barao will be stepping back down to 135lbs for his fight after a brief spell at featherweight that saw him lose by decision against Jeremy Stephens, before earning a win on the scorecards against Phillipe Nover.
He’ll return to the division he once ruled against Sterling, who came out on the wrong side of split decision victories against Bryan Caraway and Raphael Assuncao in the past year, but got back to winning ways against Augusto Mendes in April, leaving him ranked No.8 in the division.
Meanwhile, after taking several years away from the sport to do his compulsory military service in South Korea, ‘The Korean Zombie’ made an impressive return to the Octagon back in February with a first round knockout win against Dennis Bermudez.
That immediately led to him being installed at No.5 in the 145lb rankings, just two places behind Lamas, who is coming off a submission win over Charles Oliveira last year.
Barao Vs Sterling and The Korean Zombie Vs Ricardo Lamas bolster a UFC 214 event that’s scheduled to be headlined by a long anticipated light-heavyweight title showdown between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
