UFC 234 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 234 event in Melbourne, Australia the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event between Israel Adesanya and Anderson Silva.

There was big question marks about whether the soon to be 44-year-old legend Silva would still be able to hang with his younger counterpart Adesanya, but though his legs were buckled in the opening round of the fight he’d soon settle in and showed glimpses of the old magic as he’s narrowly avoid strikes coming his way and demonstrate creative techniques, such as a spinning low kick.

However, Adesanya was generally the more active fighter and was also catching ‘The Spider’ when he put his hands down at times, and in the end he was able o fight his way to a unanimous decision victory (29-28, 30-27 x2).

Montana De La Rosa took home a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus for her main card dominantion of Nadia Kassem.

De La Rosa was able to use a flurry of punches to set up early takedowns in both the first and second round, from where she was in control of the action and forced Kassem to tap after a sequence in she transitioned multiple times from triangle choke’s to what would eventually prove to be a fight-ending armbar.

Meanwhile, Devonte Smith also earned a performance bonus after he TKO’d Dong Hyun Ma in the opening round of their preliminary card bout.
