UFC Fight Night 170 May Now Take Place Behind Closed Doors

Earlier today we reported that this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 170 event in Brasilia, Brazil was in jeopardy due to the ongoing Caronavirus outbreak and now more details have emerged about what might happen next.

According to the Combate in Brazil, the UFC are going to continue on with the event, but it will take place behind closed doors, meaning that the 16,000 seater arena will be empty, which will no doubt lead to an eerily quiet atmosphere.

It should be noted however that UFC officials have yet to confirm that this is the case, but a media day prior to the event has been cancelled, along with other pre-fight activities expect for Friday’s weigh-ins.

The UFC is far from the only sporting organization to be hit by the virus, with the NBA and MLS suspending their games, while in Europe the likes of Spain, Holland and Portugal have followed suit with their leading soccer matches, while all sport is suspended in Italy.

It remains to be seen how the UFC will tackle the issue, with their upcoming UFC On ESPN 8 event in Ohio also expected to be under threat due to public gathering restrictions and it’s something that’s likely to become more commonplace in countries around the globe in the day and weeks ahead as this unprecedented situation continues.
