UFC Fight Night 243 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 243 event in Paris the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Thanks to a number of big finishes on the night the UFC opted to forgo awarding a ‘Fight Of The Night’ bonus and instead run with four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards.

Among the bonus winners was Bryan Battle, whose forward pressure and accurate punches down the pipe gradually took a toll on Kevin Jousset until he eventually started to crumble, leading to a 2nd round TKO finish.

Morgan Charriere delivered a big finish early in the 2nd round against Gabriel Miranda, foiling his attempt to execute a judo throw and also avoiding the close-range spinning back-fist that followed, before clocking his opponent with a left hand as he tried to retreat to send him crashing to the canvas for a KO finish.

Fares Ziam delivered the nastiest knockout of the night against Matt Frevola after an impressive display of his all-round MMA skills in which he’d proven to be the superior striker, but had also shown his ability to deal with his opponents wrestling game too. Then out of nowhere the finish came in the third round as Ziam suddenly unleashed a big knee upstairs from the clinch that knocked Frevola out cold and reportedly left him with a broken orbital bone.

Chris Duncan was as surprised as everyone else when he opened up the night with a submission finish in the opening round against Bolaji Oki. From his back Duncan had been working a guillotine choke, but he didn’t think he had it so he then let go and went to strike instead. However it then dawned on him that Oki was already out from the choke and after bringing it to the ref’s attention earned his submission victory.
