UFC On ESPN 29 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 29 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

On this occasion the UFC opted to dispense with a ‘Fight Of The Night’ award and instead went with four ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses instead.

The only main card offering to get an award was a high-octane performance from Alexandre Pantoja, who sought to grapple with Brandon Royval in the opening round and got the better of the resulting fast-paced scrambles.

Royval was doing his best to put on the pressure with his high-volume striking when they were on the feet, but Pantoja was able to cope with that and in the second round was able to bring the fight to the mat again and then sunk in a rear-naked choke to produce the submission finish.

Also earning a bonus was Josiane Nunes, who completely flattened Bea Malecki with a powerful overhand left in the opening round to claim a highlight-reel KO finish.

Speaking of highlight-reel finishes, Ignacio Bahamondes’ knockout of Roosevelt Roberts was as good as you could hope to see as he waited until just five second before the end of the fight to unleash a spinning head kick that brutally felled his opponent like a tree.

The final performance bonus went to William Knight, who caught Fabio Cherant with a left hook in the first round of their fight that proved to be a knockout blow.
