Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 47 event last night in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a hard-hitting main event battle between Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori.
In the opening round Vettori stunned Cannonier with a left hook and was frequently finding a home for that punch on the counter when his opponent looked to kick his leg. However, Cannonier soon rallied and then didn’t stop pressing the action for the remainder of the five-round fight, rocking Vettori multiple times along the way with big punches that would have stopped lesser men.
In fact, Cannonier would go on to break the record for the most significant strikes in middleweight history for a single fight before the final horn sounded, yet somehow Vettori’s remarkable durability and heart meant that though bloodied and beaten, he wasn’t floored or finished, leaving Cannonier to claim a unanimous decision victory (49-45 x2, 48-46).
Meanwhile, Manuel Torres earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award after he landed a brutal elbow strike to the face of Nikolas Motta that earned him a KO victory just 1.50mins into the fight.
Also securing a performance bonus was Alessandro Costa, who found early success against Jimmy Flick with leg kicks that’d pave the way for him to get the fight to the floor in the second round and deliver a TKO finish via ground-and-pound.
