Following last night’s UFC On FOX 24 event in Kansas City the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a preliminary card scrap between Tim Elliott and Louis Smolka that was filled with takedowns and entertaining scrambles, with Elliott enjoying the lions share of the action to claim a unanimous decision victory.
It’s no surprise that Demetrious Johnson earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus for his virtually flawless display of mixed martial arts against Wilson Reis.
Over the course of the fight ‘Mighty Mouse’ transitioned effortlessly between striking, grappling and finally a perfectly executed third round armbar submission to secure his 10th flyweight title defense in some style.
Also picking up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was Robert Whittaker who chalked up a major win over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
Whittaker turned up the heat in the second round of the fight, getting the better of the Brazilian with his speed and hurtful offense, leading to ‘Jacare’ being dropped with a right hand.
‘Jacare’ got back up, but he never fully recovered from that and Whittaker continued to pour on the pressure, resulting in a head kick that rocked Souza, with further punches sending him to the canvas and ground and pound sealing an impressive TKO victory.
