Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko’s next title defense will come against Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247 in Houston, Texas on February 8th.

This will Shevchenko’s third title defense, having initially won the belt with a unanimous decision victory over Joanna Jedrzejczyk in December of last year>

In 2019 ‘Bullet’ has cemented her place as the leading 125lb fighter in the sport with a head kick KO win over Jessica Eye and then a unanimous decision victory over Liz Carmouche back in August.

Chookagian gets the opportunity to fight for the belt after winning six of her eight fights in the UFC to date. Looking specifically at her recent flyweight run, the 30-year-old has a 4-1 record, with her solitary defeat coming by way of a split decision against Jessica Eye in December of last year.

Since then she’s got quickly back to winning ways with unanimous decision victories against both Joanne Calderwood and Jennifer Maia in the past year.

Shevchenko vs. Chookagian is not officially announced yet and may not serve as the headliner, but is expected to join a UFC 247 card that will also feature a heavyweight encounter between Derrick Lewis and Ilir Latifi, with more big fights expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
