Valentina Shevchenko’s next flyweight title defense will come against Joanne Calderwood at UFC 251 on June 6 at a destination still to be confirmed.
Shevchenko is only a couple of weeks removed from her last fight, which saw her TKO Katlyn Chookagian in the third round to successfully defend her title for the third time.
In total that leaves Shevchenko with five victories in a row since dropping down to the 125lb weight class, with her other victories coming against Priscila Cachoeira, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche.
Having already quickly ran through a number of top contenders, Shevchenko now faces Calderwood, who is coming off a split decision win over Andrea Lee back in September of last year, but prior to that had actually dropped a unanimous decision to recent title contender Chookagian.
However, Calderwood is 3-1 overall during her recent stint at flyweight, having also defeated Kalindra Faria and Ariane Lipski, and that’s enough to see her ranked No.3 in the division heading into this fight.
Shevchenko vs. Calderwood is currently the only fight attached to the UFC 251 card and it remains to be seen whether it will be the headliner for the show, or if another title bout will front the card.
