Veteran former UFC heavyweight Aleksei Oleinik suffered a brutal KO loss at the hands of Oli Thompson at a REN TV Fight Club event in Russia last night.
This was the 45-year-old Oleinik’s first fight since being released from the UFC at the end of his contract last October after a decision loss to Ilir Latifi, which had marked his fourth defeat in his last five fights in the Octagon.
Given his age it was believed that could potentially mark the end of his career, but ‘The Boa Constrictor’ instead opted to take on a fellow veteran in the 43-year-old man-of-many-promotions Thompson, who had himself fought in the UFC many years ago and gone on to compete for the likes of Bellator and KSW.
Like his opponent, Thompson came into last night’s fight on a lengthy losing streak, but as you’ll see in the highlight video below he turned that around with a single big right hand to the jaw late in the first round that sent Oleinik crashing back onto the canvas for a big KO finish.
And that might actually go down as one of the biggest wins of Thompson’s 22-16 career as he’s tended to come off second-best against notable competition over the years, with his only others coming against former PRIDE star Ikuhisa Minowa and current UFC fighter Chris Barnett.
