So far the build-up to the biggest fight of the year between lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former two-division titleholder Conor McGregor has been surprisingly muted, but that should all change next Thursday, September 20th when the two fighters join Dana White for a UFC 229 pre-fight press conference at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Unusually, the presser will not be open to the general public, with only accredited media being allowed to attend.
It’s not clear why that is, though it could be to stop the kind of volatile atmosphere that could spark off a continuation of the feud between the two fighters that led to McGregor and his entourage attacking a bus that Nurmagomedov was in during UFC 223 fight week in Brooklyn, New York back in April.
McGregor would later be arrested in NYC in relation to the incident and has since reached a plea deal that saw him being fined and handed community service for his part in the bus attack, but no doubt the UFC will be keen not to have a repeat performance of that unruly scene upon the two fighters return to the city.
Nevertheless, the presser, which is expected to take place at 5pm Eastern time (10pm UK) and will be the first time the two fighters have been in the same room since the fight was first announced, will unquestionably be must-see viewing for fight fans next week.
