A women’s flyweight fight between Taila Santos and Erin Blanchfield will take place at UFC Fight Night 219 in Las Vegas on February 18th.
The 29-year-old Santos made a big impression last time out by giving 125lb champion Valentina Shevchenko the toughest fight of her long title reign so far, though she ultimately lost by split decision.
Santos had been on a four-fight winning streak at the time, having also beaten Molly McCann, Gillian Robertson, Roxanne Modafferi and Joanne Wood.
Given the close nature of their last fight, Santos had been hoping for an immediate rematch with Shevchenko, but it wasn’t to be and so the No.2 ranked flyweight will instead go up against the up-and-coming Blanchfield, who is currently placed at No.10.
At only 23-years-old, Blanchfield has already compiled a four-fight winning streak of her own in the promotion, securing wins over Sarah Alpar, Miranda Maverick, JJ Aldrich and most recently Molly McCann.
Santos vs. Blanchfield takes place on a UFC Fight Night 219 card that will also feature Gerald Meerschaert vs. Abusupiyan Magomedov, Jim Miller vs. Gabriel Benitez and a rescheduled fight between Ovince Saint Preux and Philipe Lins.
