UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is hoping that stem cell treatment could be the answer to speed up his recovery from a bicep injury that’s holding him back from being able to accept a fight against Henry Cejudo.
“Next weekend I’m off to Medellin, Colombia for the @bioXcellerator stem cell treatment program!” Sterling stated on Instagram. “I’m very optimistic that this will have me back and ready to compete sooner than later 💪🏾.”
“I believe that this procedure will help kind of get me through without needing surgery and get me back to competing and being at 100 percent. So I’m very much looking forward to this.
“I know Joe Rogan has nothing but good things to say. I know Kamaru Usman, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, Al Iaquinta, so I’m hoping I could follow in these guys’ footsteps and have nothing but success with the results and the trip all the way out there to Colombia.”
There had been talk recently that Sterling might be tentatively pencilled in to fight Cejudo at UFC 287 on April 8th if his bicep heals in time, though with the recent announcements that middleweight champion Alex Pereira will rematch Israel Adesanya in the main event and Jorge Masvidal vs. Gilbert Burns also on-board, it feels like the UFC is already ensuring that they can proceed without taking too much of a hit if the bantamweight title fight has to be pushed back to a later date.
