Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya had recently talked up the possibility of Sean Strickland fighting him for the title at UFC 293 in Australia on September 9th due to rumors that Dricus du Plessis was backing out, but despite being open to the idea Strickland now says it’s not happening.
“I mean I’m a grown ass man. I’d fight him right after my last fight if you pay me,” Strickland replied to a fan on Twitter yesterday who requested if he was going to be fighting Adesanya. “I don’t think the ufc wants it soooo burgers for me..”
“I will say it is wild they are having a card like that and don’t have a headline 6 weeks out. Someone at the ufc really dropped the ball on this…
I offered. Best I could do. Maybe we can just have a parking lot event after for the aussies.”
Strickland went on to state his opinion that du Plessis is right to turn down fighting Adesanya at UFC 293 if the rumors are true that he has an injury.
“If I were dricus and even if the money was right I’d say no… Hes technically next in line and if he wins the money will be 10 times better than what they will offer him. If he loses hes years from a rematch.”
