Max Holloway picked up a big KO win over The Korean Zombie this past weekend and then hinted that his aspiration is to get a 4th fight with current featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, but it appears that Dana White isn’t on-board with it.
The former 145lb champ hadn’t gone as far as to specifically mention Volkanovski, who he’s lost to already on three separate occasions, but everyone knew what he meant.
“Undeniable, man,” Holloway had said post-fight. “All week, I’ve been saying undeniable. I’m not here to call nobody out. That’s your guy’s job to figure that out. That’s the fan’s job to do for me. I’m just here to be undeniable, keep being undeniable. I’m going to keep crawling, scratching my way back to the top of the mountain, and no one’s going to stop me getting there.”
Unfortunately for Holloway though, White seems to be standing in his way.
“I just think that Volkanovski is so dominant right now,” White said following the latest episode of the Contender Series last night. “I mean, there’s people who believe he beat Islam (Makhachev). I don’t know if you throw Max at him again at this point in Max’s career. I don’t love it.
“People want to know? Tell ‘people’ it’s a bad idea.”
That leaves the 31-year-old Holloway in an awkward spot at featherweight, and it’ll be interesting to see if it prompts him to have another crack at the lightweight division, which he previously attempted back in 2019 when he was still the featherweight champ, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Dustin Poirier.
