Spike TV Unveil Bellator Reality TV Show To Air In 2013

We already knew that Bellator Fighting Championships are making the switch from MTV2 to Spike TV in 2013, but now it’s emerged that they will also be getting their very own reality TV show.

In a press release sent out today Spike announced that The Emmy Award winning creator of ‘The Amazing Race’, Bertram Van Munster will be at the helm for the new show, though few other details are known yet about the series.

“We are thrilled to partner with an industry legend such as van Munster, whose creativity and ingenuity will help expose Bellator to an expanded new audience next year on Spike,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said.

It makes sense for Spike TV to get on-board with this given that it’s the same formula that helped them and the UFC to major success with ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality show.

So it’s exciting times for Bellator who are currently treading water over on MTV2, fluctuating between 100-200,000 viewers each week for their tournament based shows.

If all goes according to plan the move should considerably boost those figures given Spike’s long-running association with MMA thanks to the UFC, though doubts remain as to whether they will ever be able to replicate the levels of success they enjoyed with the sports leading organization.
