In a recent interview former light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans suggested he’d be interested in moving down to 185lbs if he was given a title shot against Anderson Silva, and after watching the champion’s latest victory over Chael Sonnen at the weekend he made it clear that he now has his heart set on that fight.
“@lorenzofertitta i want 2 pick a fight with the middle weight champion! Lol Make it happen!! Please!!” Evans asked the UFC’s CEO on Twitter after witnessing Silva take out Sonnen inside of two rounds in Las Vegas.
It remains to be seen if the UFC will look to pursue this fight straight away or go with one of the current middleweight challengers also looking to get their chance such as Hector Lombard, Michael Bisping, Mark Munoz or Alan Belcher.
As I wrote in an article post-fight on Saturday night though, Evans is undoubtedly the biggest fight the UFC could offer Silva at 185lbs at this moment in time.
Given how much success Sonnen had against Silva with his wrestling, you’d also have to think that Evans would see the potential to use that same skill-set against him, and he’s a better striker than this past weekend’s challenger too.
