Josh Burkman Not Sold On The Idea Of Fighting Jon Fitch In WSOF Next

Josh Burkman picked up a first round win over Aaron Simpson last night at World Series Of Fighting 2, but he’s not exactly jumping at the chance to take on another former UFC fighter Jon Fitch next.

A UFC alumni himself, Burkman’s currently on a four-fight winning streak and is looking for a title shot next in the WSOF, but doesn’t think Fitch has earned the right to fight him for the belt yet.

“I think he should come into the organization and win and then they need to put me in against the winner of that, which I think it’ll be Jon Fitch,” Burkman stated after the event. “I think either one of us will represent this organization well as a titleholder.”

“I’m going to talk to them about it. I think I deserve a title shot. I beat Harris, I beat Simpson, and those are two of the best guys outside of the UFC. I think Jon Fitch needs to earn his title shot and then we can talk about it.”

Fitch is coming off a loss to Demian Maia in the UFC and is sporting a lackluster recent record of 1-2-1, but nonetheless he’s now the biggest star in WSOF’s welterweight roster and it’s more than likely that putting him in a title eliminator first is only going to delay the inevitable.

I suspect WSOF will stick with their original plan to do Fitch Vs Burkman in June as that’s the fight that makes the most sense and is the kind of credible match-up that the promotion needs to help build his reputation as a serious player in the sport.
