Brandon Vera’s career appears to have gone full circle after making the decision to move back to the heavyweight division.
That was where Vera started out his MMA career, initially producing a perfect 8-0 record including a four fight winning streak in the UFC that culminated with a win over Frank Mir which left him marked out as a future star of the sport.
However, back-to-back losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum took the wind out of his sails and lead to him opting to move down to light-heavyweight where he’s struggled to regain consistancy, going 4-4 (1nc) over the past five years.
Now Vera will look to re-energize his career by moving back up to face Ben Rothwell at UFC 164 on August 31st who’s 2-2 in the UFC so far and looking to rebound after a loss to Gabe Gonzaga last time out.
