It’s now been officially confirmed that interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao’s recent foot injury will keep him out of his next fight with Eddie Wineland which had been scheduled to headline UFC 161 on June 15th.
As a result of this Dan Henderson Vs Rashad Evans, which was previously intended to feature on the pay-per-view portion of the event, has now been promoted to the main event spot.
While it’s unfortunate that Barao’s unable to compete, it could be argued that putting Henderson and Evans up-front on the card could actually be beneficial since they are both considered bigger stars in the sport.
The fight card also still stacks up pretty well with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira scheduled for the co-main event.
At this stage it’s not known whether Eddie Wineland will remain on the card out not.
