Prelims:

Andrew Craig defeats Chris Leben by split decision (29-28, 30-27, 28-29)

Leben constantly looked to push the pace in this fight, but the crisper, cleaner punches were coming from Craig. Leben never really found a home for his power punches, instead resorting to clinching and working to the body, though he’d often get caught with a knee to the head as they broke apart. early in the third round Craig had Leben in big trouble with a series of punches that first staggered and then dropped Leben. He was able being KO’d in the enevitable blitz that followed before standing up again, but the tide was now firmly against him and Craig secured the round, and indeed the fight with a few takedowns in the final minutes.

Norman Parke defeats Kazuki Tokudome by unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 29-28)

Parke was the aggressor for much of this fight, taking advantage of Tokudome’s vulnerable striking defense. He hurt him at times in the second round in particular, but couldn’t put him away and eventually had to settle for a decision.

Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Dave Herman by TKO at 0.17mins of Rd1

Gonzaga makes very short work of Herman here. Herman threw a leg kick early and Gonzaga countered with a right hand that dropped him. He followed up with ground and pound strikes and the referee had seen enough with just 17 seconds gone. Perhaps the fight could have gone on a little longer, but Herman was definitely rocked.

Edson Barboza defeats Rafaello Oliveira by TKO at 1.44mins of Rd2

Barboza literally demolished Oliveira with leg kicks in this fight. From the first moment of the fight until the last he was firing off kicks with the ease, speed and repetition that a boxer would utilize a jab. unfortunately for Oliveira these were landing far harder than a jab though, and by the end of the first he was Wincing in pain and stepping gingerly on his lead leg which was showing welts and cuts. More of the same was to come in the second and inevitably Oliveira could only take so much before his leg began to give way, resulting in a few knockdowns before he eventually couldn’t stand and the fight was brought to an end.

Brian Melancon defeats Seth Baczynski by KO at 4.59mins of Rd1

Melancon looked very impressive in his UFC debut here. Showing big power from the start he quickly earned Baczynski’s respect. Late in the round he took him down and looked to be happy to just coast until the bell, but with just five second to go he suddenly unleashed a huge punch to his grounded opponent and followed up with a further flurry of blows that KO’d Baczynski.

Mike Pierce defeats David Mitchell by TKO at 2.55mins of Rd2

This looked like being a typically grinding performance by Pierce until mid-way through the second round when he suddenly connected with a short left hook that dropped Mitchell, then followed up with ground and pound for the TKO finish.
