Joseph Benavidez once again showed he’s got serious punching power at 125lbs with a first round TKO victory over Jussier ‘Formiga’ Da Silva tonight at UFC Fight Night 28 in Brazil.
Round One
Both fighters feeling themselves slowly into this fight. The first real flurry sparks off about a minute in with fists flying from both men before they break apart.
Benavidez lands a nice left hand, but soon after Formiga lands one of his own.
Two-piece combo connects for Formiga as Benavidez steps in with his own strikes.
Benavidez pushing the pace and initiating the exchanges, but Formiga’s firing back on the counter.
Spinning kick to the body lands for Formiga. Benavidez takes it though and then responds in vicious fashion, landing a powerful left to the chin that rocks his opponent, and another punch behind it.
Then comes a big knee to the mid-section and it drops Formiga to the mat. Benavidez unleashes a heavy barrage of blows on the at to follow up and that’s it, the referee’s stepped in giving Benavidez the TKO victory with on the clock.
