UFC 165 Prelims: TV Ratings

Saturday nights UFC 165 prelims were watched by an average of 722,000 viewers on FOX Sports 1.

That’s a drop of 87,000 viewers from the prelimary coverage aired on FOX Sports 1 during the UFC 164 event last month.

This past weekend’s undercard only contained four fights and it’s fair to say that there was a noticable lack of star power on show with veteran Ivan Menjivar being the most recognisable star on-board, while Myles Jury Vs Mike Ricci served as the ‘main event’ of the prelims.

In general the preliminary card, including the four other fights which aired on Facebook earlier in the evening, were also a little underwhelming on th entertainment front.

Still, it’s unfortunate that there wasn’t more interest from fans given the high-profile nature of the pay-per-view portion of the UFC 165 event which was headlined by Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson, the first in a string of major title fights that are scheduled for the final months of 2013.

Speaking of the UFC 165 PPV event, Dana White claimed at a media gathering yesterday that the show had met their expectations as far as the buy rate goes, though it seems as if internally they had adjusted their sights lower after finding themselves following a week after the massive Mayweather vs Canello record breaking boxing pay-per-view show which was bought by over 2.25 million fans.
