Prelims:
Igor Araujo defeats Ildemar Alcantara by unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
Araujo picks up a win in his UFC debut after a fairly underwhelming fight. Alcantara never really seemed to get going and Araujo was able to fight at a higher tempo and control his opponent on the mat for significant periods to earn the decision win.
Yan Cabral defeats David Mitchell by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Cabral showed himself to be an impressive jiu-jitsu stylist tonight as he dominated Mitchell on the ground, and dropped him in the second round to boot. Mitchell did well defensively throughout the fight from his back, but was never able to really get his own offensive game going.
Chris Cariaso defeats Iliarde Santos by TKO at 4.31mins of Rd2
Santos looked the better fighter in the first round of this fight, scoring an early takedown and later landing the better, heavier shots on the feet. Santos continued to outstrike Cariaso for a significant portion of the second round, but then a seemingly innocuous right hand landed for Cariaso that left his opponent on unsteady legs. From that moment onwards it was Cariaso who suddenly became the aggressor and was finding a home for his punches as Santos struggled to fully regain his bearings. He showed heart to tough it out for some time under persistent offence from Cariaso, but eventually be began to wilt, bending over against the cage after taking a particularly hard shot. He didn’t go down, but he was clearly hurt and unsteady on his feet so the referee jumped in to save him from further punishment.
Alan Patrick defeats Garett Whiteley by TKO at 3.54mins of Rd1
Patrick was the more aggressive fighter from the start here and it paid off late in the first round as he beat Whitley to the punch, landing hard to the chin with a left hand, dropping him to the mat. Whitley tried to struggle back to his knees, but patrick was swarming all over him with hammerfist strikes and the referee deemed that was enough, handing him the TKO victory.
