The co-main event of UFC 176 on August 2nd in Los Angeles will feature a battle of former Strikeforce champions as Gegard Mousasi takes on Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza.
A one-time 205lb champion in Strikeforce, Mousasi is now competing at 185lbs and is currently 2-1 in the UFC so far.
He was awarded a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus for his last victory against Mark Munoz which ended by a rear-naked choke submission late last month, leaving him ranked No.7 in the division.
A former Strikeforce middleweight title holder, Jacare has been in top form in the UFC so far, notching up three victories to extend his unbeaten run to six fights in total. More impressively, the former Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu superstar finished five of those fights inside the distance.
That’s put him in a strong position at No.4 in the rankings and an impressive win over Mousasi could leave him within touching distance of a title shot.
UFC 176 will air on pay-per-view and features a featherweight title rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes in the main event.
