A lightweight encounter between Jorge Masvidal and Bobby Green has today been added to the UFC 178 fight card in Las Vegas on September 27th.
Masvidal and Green are only days removed from their most recent outing in the Octagon, with both having emerged victorious in their bouts at UFC On FOX 12 in San Jose.
Masvidal was the featured bout on the preliminary portion of the card and earned a unanimous decision victory over Daron Cruickshank, leaving him with a 4-1 record to date in the UFC and currently ranked No.14 in the lightweight division.
Green featured on the main card, stepping in as a late replacement to fight Josh Thomson and despite being considered the underdog he was able to edge ‘The Punk’ out by split decision.
That was certainly the biggest win of his career so far and resulted in him jumping no less than six places up the lightweight rankings this week to No.7. Given that he’s currently on an eight-fight winnings streak, with four of them coming in the Octagon it would be hard to argue that the former Strikeforce fighter hasn’t earned the spot in the top 10.
It’s a good fight, but with UFC 178 already looking like being a stacked event and with rumors that there may still be one more big fight left to be announced, it remains to see if this lightweight encounter will feature on the pay-per-view main card.
The event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, while former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has his comeback fight against Takeya Mizugaki, Tim Kennedy fights Yoel Romero, Conor McGregor faces Dustin Poirier and Cat Zingano returns against Amanda Nunes.
With so many intriguing bouts on the line-up, UFC 178 is shaping up to be an unmissable event and hopefully the fighters involved can stay injury-free so that the card can go ahead as planned.
