The outspoken, controversial and undeniably entertaining Chael Sonnen is set to launch his very own podcast, ‘You’re Welcome!’ this Wednesday on the Podcast One network.
“UFC Superstar Chael Sonnen speaks his mind and interviews MMA studs and legends,” the accompanying spiel for his new show reads. “As Chael says “I do the thinking so you don’t have to. Listen, learn, and then follow me blindly as I show you the world as it ought to be.”
For his first show Sonnen will be joined by a special guest, MMA reporter Ariel Helwani from FOX Sports 1 / MMAfighting, who’s interviewed the man himself many times himself over the years.
Sonnen retired from MMA competition in typically controversial fashion back in June after he failed two separate drug tests leading up to a fight with his TUF: Brazil coaching rival Wanderlei Silva. Despite hanging up his gloves he was still punished by the Nevada State Athletic Commission who handed him a two year suspension from the sport.
A natural on the mic, Sonnen had been tipped for big things at FOX in a broadcasting role after his fighting career was over, but after his failed drug tests they swiftly parted company with him.
Since then Sonnen has kept a fairly low profile by his standards, but he did compete in a grappling match (despite a warning from NSAC that it would breach his suspension) at a ‘Metamoris’ event in which he tapped out to BJJ ace Andre Galvao, and a couple of weekends ago he served as color commentator opposite famed wrestling announcer Jim Ross for a ‘Battlegrounds’ MMA one-night tournament on pay-per-view.
