Cung Le has asked to be released from his UFC contract after becoming unhappy with the promotion due to a drug test blunder that led him to be suspended for a year for a positive hGH reading following is loss to Michael Bisping back in August, only for it to then be rescinded a few weeks later due to doubts aabout the tests validity.
Le feels he was treated unfairly and had his name was dragged through the mud during that period and so he’s come to the decision that it’s tiime to move on to pastures new.
“I’d just prefer not to be part of the UFC anymore,” Le told reporter Josh Gross on his Gross Point Blank podcast. “I’d prefer not to put the effort into something I don’t believe in anymore.”
A former Strikeforce middleweight champion, Le now has his eyes set on a potential link-up with his former boss Scott Coker over at Bellator.
“If I would fight for anyone, it would be Scott Coker,” Le said. “I would not fight for the UFC after what happened.”
Regardless of what Le wants he is still under contract with the UFC, and given that Bellator are their biggest rivals they might not be in a hurry to let him go.
Le is now 42 years-old and up until this point had compiled a 2-2 record in the UFC (9-3 in total), defeating Rich Franklin and Patrick Cote book-ended by losses to Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping.
