Just a couple of days after his TKO loss at UFC 181 on Saturday night Brendan Schaub appeared on a live streaming episode of ‘The Fighter & The Kid’ podcast with co-host Bryan Callen and special guest Joe Rogan.
During their conversation Rogan, who called Schaub’s fight with Travis Browne live on pay-per-view, got brutally honest with the former TUF finalist about his performance and future prospects in the sports.
What do we mean by ‘brutally honest?’ Well, for starters he tells Schaub he’s not an elite fighter, says he has no chance of beating the likes of Cain Velasquez, Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum and states that in his opinion the 31 year-old already isn’t 100% focused on fighting and already has one foot out the door.
That’s just a brief snapshot though, he says a whole lot more and at times it sounds like an intervention to get him to retire rather than a chat about his fight.
Whether you agree with what Rogan says or not there’s no doubt it’s extremely awkward to listen to a conversation this deeply personal and it opens up a debate as to whether Rogan crossed the line here by opting to broadcasting his concerns on-air rather than talking to Schaub behind closed doors.
Either way it’s a fascinating conversation and something that everyone should take the time to check out below.
