Dan Henderson suffered his fifth loss in six fights at UFC On FOX 14 this past Saturday night in Sweden against Gegard Mousasi, but as the dust settles on the event the 44 year-old has vowed to continue fighting.
“Absolutely,” was Henderson’s definitive statement when asked on the UFC On FOX 14 post-fight show if he wanted to continue with his career. “I want to fight right now.”
Some people believed his latest fight ended prematurely as Henderson was in the process of taking Gustafsson down when the referee stepped in, and needless to say the man himself is certain he should have been allowed to continue despite clearly having been rocked moments before.
“I was aware the whole time,” Henderson said. “I was going for a single leg and coming up. I felt like I was in a good position to take him down.”
Not everyone agrees though, with UFC President Dana White being amongst those who believed the referee made the right call.
“If the ref didn’t tackle Mousasi he would have kept that top position Dan would have got smashed,” White stated on Twitter.
Regardless of whether the TKO stoppage was just or not, the decision to stop the fight turned out to be a good thing for Henderson as a minute earlier he’d suffered a significant eye injury that required surgery the next day.
