UFC woman’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s appearance in the ring at Wrestlemania 31 last weekend, which included her throwing Triple-H and Stephanie McMahon alongside The Rock, generated a lot of excitement in the pro-wrestling community.
Rousey’s unexpected cameo was met with an overwhelmingly positive reception, to the extent that fans were chanting her name both at the time, and even on the ‘Monday Night RAW’ show, leading to talk that this could be the start of an ongoing storyline for her in the WWE.
Even Rousey herself appeared to be adding fuel to that particular fire with her comments on social media afterwards, posting up pictures of her in the ring along with the message:
“The night: Historic.
The moment: Electric.
The Rock, Ronda & the WWE Universe: Magic.
We’re just gettin’ started…”
However, on last night’s UFC Tonight show, Rousey’s agent Brad Slater revealed that the superstar doesn’t have any further WWE appearances planned at this time and called it “a one-off”.
Instead, Rousey’s focus is now on her upcoming UFC title defense against Bethe Correia at UFC 190 on August 1st in Brazil.
It should also be noted that Rousey had confirmed a week ago that she’d just signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC, so she’s not going anywhere anytime soon unless the UFC agree to it.
That’s a relief as it seems that these days everyone is vying for Rousey’s attention – with Hollywood also being an admirer of her as reflected in her upcoming roles in ‘Fast & Furious 7’ and ‘Entourage’, while ‘Rowdy’ indicated last week that she’d love to try her hand at the sport of boxing.
Don’t completely rule out the possibility of Rousey turning up in WWE again at some stage though. Dana White signed off on her appearing at Wrestlemania on Sunday night – even staying up until 3am in the morning in London to watch her appearance live – and given the ‘pop’ she received from pro-wrestling fans you’d have to imagine WWE owner Vince McMahon will be eager to reach an agreement to enable her to feature again in the future.
