Jose Aldo underwent a random drug test in his native Brazil yesterday, but has since had his urine sample discarded due to a complaint stemming from his manager, Andre Pederneiras.
Pederneiras is believed to have become suspicious about the man who was administering a test and so he contacted the Brazilian MMA commission (CABMMA) who turned up at his Nova Uniao gym along with the Brazilian police to investigate the situation.
When they arrived it was established that the tester was Ben Mosier from the Drug Free Sports Lab who is licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but that he did not have a Visa to work in Brazil, so he has been fined $130 and will have to leave the country within the next eight days.
A new urine sample will now be taken by CABMMA today instead and sent to a WADA credited laboratory in the U.S.
This is an odd situation altogether and one that Aldo’s opponent at next month’s UFC 189 event in Las Vegas, Conor McGregor has been quick to pounce on.
“I was random tested on May 23rd. Blood AND Urine,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “@josealdojunior you little weasel. You and your weasel coach. #AndNew”
No don’t McGregor will continue to assert in the coming weeks that his rival has been up to no good, but for his part Aldo is looking to play down the significance of it.
“We reached a point in this sport that not only me, but every fighter has to go through this,” Aldo told Combate. “This is my first time in Brazil. I think the Brazilian commission should be the one handling this, for the fact that I live here. But that’s not an issue. It’s nothing for me. Fight, pee, it’s the same thing to me.”
