So, one of the biggest events of the year, UFC 189 in Las Vegas, is almost upon us, and while it doesn’t have the headline fight we’d all been getting hyped up for, it’s still a strong card overall.
In the main event, man of the moment Conor McGregor goes up against late replacement Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight title in a match-up that’s every bit as competitive as the originally planned bout with Jose Aldo.
While it’s not getting nearly as much pre-fight publicity, the co-main event is also from the top drawer as Robbie Lawler looks to defend his welterweight title for the first time in a rematch with the ever-improving Rory MacDonald.
Current featherweight No.8 Dennis Bermudez will be looking to get back to winning ways after a loss last time out against Jeremy Stephens who’s looking to work his way back into the top 10 after a two-fight slump of his own.
Meanwhile, Gunnar Nelson lost for the first time in his career back in October of last year which somewhat derailed his hype train and he now faces a potentially challenging fight with talented striker Brandon Thatch.
Opening up the main card is a possible ‘Fight Of The Night’ contender as Brad Pickett moves back up to bantamweight to square up against an exciting Brazilian prospect in Thomas Almeida.
