‘My Life/Your Life’ – Ronda Rousey’s recent autobiography is set to be turned into a movie, and the woman’s bantamweight champion has been signed up to take the starring role.
Paramount Pictures have snapped up the film rights for the book and they’ve decided that Rousey herself is the only woman who could do the role justice.
Rousey already has acting experience after appearing in a number of high-profile movies in the past couple of years like The Expendables 3, Furious 7 and Entourage, and in January of next year she’ll star opposite Mark Whalberg in the action movie, ‘Mile 22’ directed by Peter Berg.
Rousey’s acting so far have mainly been confined to bit parts, so even though it’s her own life this will be her most challenging role to date, particularly as there’s much more to her remarkable story than just fighting.
The 28 year-old had a speech impediment when she was young and also lost her father after he committed suicide when she was still just eight years old. Her mother, the first American ever to win the Judo World Championships, helped coach her in the sport and she’d go on to become the youngest competitor in the 2004 Olympics, and then four years later won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, becoming the first American woman ever to win a medal in Judo at the games.
Following her judo career Rousey’s life threatened to go off the rails, experimenting with drugs and even living in her car at one stage, but then she found her way by turning to mixed martial arts, becoming a Strikeforce champion, almost single-handedly becoming the reason for woman’s MMA finally being brought into the UFC and then becoming the biggest star in the company and one of the most dominant champions in the history of the sport.
At this stage work is just beginning on adapting Rousey’s story for the big screen and it’s unclear when filming will begin, but it’s likely to be sometime next year at the earliest.
That leaves time for Rousey to fight one more time this year, which is set to be a third encounter with her rival Miesha Tate.
