Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t be getting a fight with either Nate Diaz or Anthony Pettis after all as he’s just been confirmed for a TUF 22 Finale fight on December 11th against another top 10 opponent, Tony Ferguson.
Nurmagomedov is one of the most feared lightweights in the division at this moment in time with his dominant wrestling and generally well-rounded skill set having helped him compile an impressive 22-0 career record up to this point, including six victories inside the Octagon.
Last time out in April of last year Nurmagomedov actually defeated Rafael dos Anjos who, a year later, would go on to become the division’s new champion. Unfortunately for the Daghestani native he’s since been held back from competing due to knee injuries, but he’s now well on the road to recovery and will be looking to pick up right where he left off in the lightweight division.
Ferguson has also been on an excellent run of form, producing six victories in a row inside the Octagon over the past couple of years which has taken him to No.9 in the divisional rankings, six place behind Nurmagomedov.
This is a big fight for the 155lb weight class, but interestingly it won’t serve as TUF 22 Finale’s main event. The headliner has still to be revealed at this stage, and it’ll have to be a pretty significant match-up to top this one.
The TUF 22 Finale will take place in Las Vegas and comes just a day before the blockbuster UFC 194 event in the fight capital featuring the long awaited featherweight title unification bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor alongside a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold.
