Following the head kick knockout loss heard around the world to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last night, Dana White revealed that Ronda Rousey was taken to hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
“She was transported because she got knocked out,” White told MMAjunkie at the post-fight press conference. “Then her lip was split in half, so they had to sew her lip.”
It’s no surprise that Rousey required hospital treatment as Holm was finding a home for her punches to the face from the opening minute of the fight as she played matador to the superstar’s raging bull, showing off superior punching and footwork.
Despite being at a clear disadvantage on the feet against the former decorated boxing and kickboxing champion, Rousey persisted in trying to stand with the challenger rather than utilize her judo and submission skills that have dominanted so many opponents in the past, and it cost her dearly early in the second round as Holm rocked her with a punch then knocked her out cold with a clean head kick.
Rousey was then seen on camera coming too as the new champion respectfully kneeled nearby, with ‘Rowdy’ clearly dazed and confused by what had just happened and with her face bloodied from the beating she’d just endured.
The 28 year-old was then whisked away to hospital after missing both the customary in-Octagon post-fight interview with Joe Rogan and post-fight press conference.
