Vitor Belfort found himself coming off second best by TKO against Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 198 on Saturday night, and he’s now spoken out about the fight for the first time in a post on his Facebook page.
“Saturday was a day that I went to work but didn’t work. Have you ever had that feeling?” Belfort wrote, as translated by MMAfighting.com. “I learned through my life that we can’t stop learning, and the lesson I take from my fight Saturday is: don’t wait too much for the moment because if it doesn’t come and you don’t go for it, nothing will happen. I didn’t in my fight, I was focused in the defense and lost my main quality: the attack.
“If I could leave my learning here to you, that cost me a bitter defeat, is don’t wait for the moment to come, but go after it with the confident that you will conquer it. Merits to my opponent.”
Belfort is now 2-2 in his last four fights, having also lost by TKO to Chris Weidman in an unsuccessful attempt to win the title, sandwiched in-between two KO victories against Dan Henderson.
Now 39, Belfort still has plenty to offer in the middleweight division, though he doesn’t seem to have quite the same pep in his step as he did just a few years ago in the heyday of the testosterone era.
