Hopes that Ronda Rousey might return to the Octagon before the end of the year have diminished after UFC President Dana White confirmed that she won’t be fighting at the promotion’s historic UFC 205 event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 12th.
“She’s definitely not fighting in New York,” White stated on the latest edition of the ‘UFC Unfiltered’ podcast.
Rousey underwent minor knee surgery earlier in the summer, and is believed to currently be suffering from a swollen foot.
However, the former woman’s bantamweight champion has recently returned to training and the LA Times reports that she plans to continue doing so for the remainder of this month in an attempt to decipher when she might be able to return to action.
It’s still possible that she could feature on the UFC 206 card at the end of the year, or early 2017, and whatever happens White has previously indicated that she will immediately challenge for the title.
Rousey may have been ruled out of UFC 205, but hopes are still high that the promotion are going to build a stacked show for their long awaited event in the state of New York, and White says that the line-up should start to take shape soon.
“I’m actually going to start building the New York card this week,” White stated.
