Speculation is building that UFC superstar Ronda Rousey could be set to return to the Octagon before the end of the year.
According to a Twitter post from MMAfighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, “it’s looking more + more like Rousey’s return will be finalized this wk.”
He goes on to confirm suggest that Rousey is being lined up to face current woman’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in what would undoubtedly serve as the main event for the UFC 207 event on December 30th.
Nunes has also been speaking about the potential bout this week in an interview with Combate.com, describing the possibility of the match-up as “highly likely,” though she doesn’t know for sure what the UFC will do.
“I do not know yet when I come to fight,” Nunes said. “I think the end of the year is likely, perhaps in the last event of the year (UFC 207). I am waiting. But I hope it’s against Ronda, of course.”
If it goes through, Rousey would be fighting for the first time since her devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November of last year.
The belt has changed hands twice since then, with Miesha Tate defeating Holm, only to then have Nunes seize the belt from her, and with the Brazilian being both a dangerous finisher on the feet and on the mat, that would be by no means an easy match-up for ‘Rowdy’s’ return to action.
