Following UFC 206 last night in Toronto the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was an all-time classic war between Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi.
Both men demonstrated high-level striking and ridiculous chins as they were both rocked numerous times over the course of 15 minutes, yet neither had any intention of quitting and kept pushing forward regardless.
Choi was taking the bigger shots overall though and that started to take a toll on him late in the fight, with Swanson somehow able to dig even deeper into his energy reserves and was chaining together combos that looked like they belonged in a video game.
After three rounds of back-and-forth action it was down to the judges to decide the winner and they were unanimous in their decision that Swanson had won, but both men were hailed as heroes afterwards by the crowd and it’s hard to imagine this not winning ‘Fight of The Year’ honors.
Meanwhile, main event winner Max Holloway earned ‘Fight of The Night’ honors after he was able to put Anthony Pettis away by TKO under a hail of kicks and punches to the body and head in the third round.
It was another accomplished display from Holloway to earn the interim featherweight title and afterwards he called out Jose Aldo to fight him at UFC 208 in February of next year.
Earlier in the evening, Lando Vanatta demolished John Makdessi with a brutally effective spinning back kick in the opening round that also earned himw a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus.
