It looks like Kelvin Gastelum will be sticking around at middleweight following his victory on Saturday night as reports out of Brazil suggest he is now going to fight Vitor Belfort at a ‘Fight Night’ event in Brazil on March 11th.
Gastelum impressed at UFC 206 this past weekend with a third round TKO victory over Tim Kennedy, coming just weeks after he’d been forced to move up to middleweight after missing weight for a welterweight showdown against Donald Cerrone at UFC 205.
Despite repeated issues making the welterweight limit, Gastelum indicated after his latest fight that he’d still prefer to move back down to the division if possible, but it seems that the UFC’s offer to have him fight ‘The Phenom’ at 185lbs was just too good to ignore.
The 39 year-old Belfort waved off talk of retirement following his last second round TKO defeat against Gegard Mousasi at UFC 204 in October, which marked his third loss in his last four fights.
It seems that even after a 20 year professional career in the sport, the Brazilian still has something left to prove, and he’ll now attempt to get back to winning ways against an in-form opponent who is 14 years younger than he is.
