Alan Jouban proved to be the more skillful, technical striker against Mike Perry tonight at UFC On FOX 22, en-route to a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Early leg kick for Perry and then a side kick attempt to the midsection. Perry with another kick, but gets caught with a counter punch from Jouban that knocks him to the mat just for a moment.
Perry seems ok though and gets straight back into the action. Jouban with a body kick now. Another lands hard after Perry overextends on a punch.
Perry pressing forward, taking the center of the Octagon. Jouban backing away, then lands a body punch and then a kick.
Leg kicks for Perry and then one in return from Jouban. Right hook for Perry. Head kick from Jouban is blocked, then tries for a leg kick, but stumbles.
Perry trying to take advantage, but Jouban gets to the clinch and lands a takedown shortly afterwards.
It’s not too long before Perry is back upright again though and they go back to striking range. Perry coming forward again, but Jouban clocks him with a couple of hooks.
Big punch for Perry now. Perry stalking again and he lands a head kick. Jouban partially blocked that, but it seemed to stun him for a moment.
Boy kick from Jouban. Spinning backfist attempt from Jouban, but it doesn’t pay off and he appears to get clipped as he does so which sends him reeling off-balance across the Octagon. He seems to be ok though and soon after the bell sounds for the end of the round.
Round Two:
Push kick from Jouban. Front kick to the midsection from Perry. Body kick from Jouban and a leg kick in return from Perry. Another leg kick for Jouban.
Solid body kick for Jouban. Another leg kick. One to the body from Perry. Leg kick and a body punch from Perry. Almost all kicks here as Jouban lands to the thigh again.
Jouban now changes things up with a left hand to the head, then another. He darts into a takedown against the cage. Perry stuffs the attempt though and then spins away.
Half the round remaining. Back to the leg kick for Jouban. Left hand for Perry. Perry still taking the center of the Octagon as Jouban seems happy to settle for circling on the outside.
Body kick for Perry. High kick for Jouban bounces off the shoulder. Body kick and then one to the leg from Jouban. Another kick.
Perry wades in with a hard body punch. A leg kick to either side of the body from Jouban. Now a big straight left down the pipe drops Perry late in the round, but Perry is right back up.
Perry recovers quickly and motions Jouban to come at him. Jouban with a head kick that’s blocked. Both men looking to engage as the round ends.
Round Three:
Both men exchange leg kicks to start the final round. Two leg kicks for Perry and Jouban shakes his head. Straight right lands for Pery.
Jouban has to jockey for position to get his back off the cage and is able to lands a left hand. Head kick attempt is almost caught by Perry.
Leg kick for Jouban and then blocks a counter punch in return. Right hand for Jouban as Perry comes in. Body kick for Perry, leg kick for Jouban.
Body kick and one to the leg from Jouban. Jouban throws a head kick, but Perry ducks underneath. Two sharp punches snap Perry’s head.
Now a head kick for Jouban. He’s fought a smart, technical fight thus far, and there’s now less than two minutes to go.
Hard leg kick for Jouban. Body kick. left hand for Perry. Solid left hand for Jouban. 30 seconds to go Jouban ducks in for a takedown attempt, but it’s stuffed.
Punches set up the body kick for Jouban. He tries a spinning back kick that doesn’t connect to end the round.
Decision:
No doubt about the winner here. Perry consistently pressed forward during the fight, but Jouban had clearly prepared to fight off the back foot and did so well, gradually picking apart his opponent from range with kicks and also dropped ‘Platinum’ twice with punches.
Jouban gets the unanimous decision victory (29-28, 39-27 x2).
